Changed the top link to the new site.
Still looking for better links/pictures of different sled designs. I would like to see if anyone on the eastern side of the state could take detailed pics of the smaller sleds. I don't think we could handle building the monster sleds at this point. Plus I think we would have to keep it simple to just a pull back non motorized sled for now.

Did you see his picture gallery?
http://gardentractorpullingtips.com/galleries/sleds/ You are gonna have to size up most of the stuff since it looks to be for ATV and garden tractors, but I'm sure the design principle is still the same. |

yeah, I figured we would have to upsize from the design quite a bit. I have a Dodge Dually 4.10 rear axle to use, a couple of different transmission combos, axles to cut down or modify, etc. It is just the best instructions I could come up with so far. I would really like to see it be able to be hauled around with no separate trailer by Pickup.

It would have to be set up with some kind of axle disconnect. Also, it will need some kind of engine like a little 4 banger with some really low gearing. Too bad I don't have the little Prizm anymore, that was a good running little engine.

You don't have to have an engine, you can just pull it back with another truck. That would keep it simple with less to go wrong for now. Maybe build it with the idea of adding a motor in the future.

Very true chris.... But ya know what, a 25hp engine with the right gearing can move mountains, so I guess it wouldn't really have to be a 4 banger.

I think I will start scrounging for the list of stuff we will need. Some of the ones I have looked at have the forward axle for driving and the rear axle for running the weight box.

Figured I'd see a little more interest in building a sled from this forum.
Looks like I may have procured some straight truck framerails to make the runners for the weight box.

I Know were some 1/2 steel plate is for .15 a pound from the local scrapper for the skid pan. I would think but dont know, it would have to weigh over 25,000 for a fullsize diesel pickup to pull wouldnt it? at least to actually drag it to a stop.
